Hardy annual with dark stems, pale blue flowers with white throats developing into rounded fruit enclosed in papery calyces from summer to autumn. Can self-sow, sun or part shade and moist well-drained soil.

Sow onto moist compost in containers in early spring at 15°c. Lightly cover seeds with a thin layer of fine grit. Prick out when large enough to handle.
